Purpose

Management of Unitrans daily operations to ensure that safe and reliable transit service is being provided for the University of California and the City of Davis.

Duties

As a part of ASUCD, you agree to subscribe to the ASUCD Newsletter.

Functions and Tasks:

  1. Receive and resolve daily operational problems that may arise

    1. Schedule new service additions (i.e. high school runs, trippers).

    2. Re-allocate resources to address unforeseen operational difficulties.

    3. Reduce/Increase service when deemed necessary or appropriate.

    4. Plan re-routes to work around construction, road closures, etc.

    5. Maintain necessary equipment stocks needed for daily operations.


  1. Plan and carry out operations-related projects

    1. Work with career and student managers, supervisors, and assistants in an effort to improve the efficiency of operations, address operational needs as they arise, and maintain optimal working conditions for employees.


  1. Provide operations-related information and protocol to all Unitrans employees

    1. Assist the HRM in the conduct of Priority and Mandatory.

    2. Give presentations at Mandatory meetings as needed.


  1. Participate in internal planning and carry out service changes

    1. Work with career staff and the planning department to plan service changes.

    2. Make arrangements for service changes, including changes to column rotations, updating destination signs, and re-allocation of resources.


  1. Maintain communication with other Unitrans managers and supervisors (5%)

    1. Work closely with maintenance staff to ensure an appropriate number of buses are operational to meet service needs.

    2. Work with human resources to address personnel issues and ensure coverage of shifts.




  1. Maintain public relations and investigate operations-related complaints (5%)

    1. Monitor and investigate operations-related customer complaints.

    2. Provide responses to complaining customers who request a call-back.

    3. Adjust service, policy, and procedure to meet the public’s needs.


  1. Responsible for the organization and planning of Special Events

    1. Organize and Plan out Summer Camp Trips

    2. Bus Roadeo

    3. Picnic Day (including initial execution on day of)

    4. Airport Shuttle planning

    5. Other Misc. Events



  1. Other

    1. Understand and carry out the Unitrans Emergency Operations Plan if needed.

    2. Arrange FTA mandated drug tests for drivers and supervisors.

    3. Record all service actions for future reference.

    4. Oversee and delegate duties to Operations Assistants.

    5. Participate in the selection and training of the subsequent Operations Manager.

    6. Order paper and other supplies as needed.


Skills

Requirements: Must be a Unitrans Employee. If you are a driver, a minimum of 500 Life time hours. All other Unitrans employees, 200 Life time hours.

The skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the Unitrans Operations Manager may be acquired, to a large extent, through on-the-job training and experience.  Only general, fundamental attributes necessary for this position are listed below.
