Purpose

Train Unitrans driver trainees to get their Class B Commercial License.

Duties

A. Administer the Unitrans Driver Trainer Program

a. Maintain current knowledge of driving, training, and safety requirements

b. Responsible for knowledge of DMV pre-trip and performance of DMV driving skills

c. Assist in the design and documentation of all Unitrans equipment and efficient in-service performance of drivers

d. Train all new Unitrans drivers in accordance with the driver training program in a timely fashion

e. Make recommendations concerning trainees to the Safety and Training Supervisor

f. Attend biweekly meetings

B. Administer driver evaluation and retraining

a. In coordination with other Assistant Driver Trainers, provide and document in-service evaluation of every driver at least once each academic quarter

b. Provide and document in-service retraining to all drivers as needed to meet the objective of the position

c. Provide and document out-of- service retraining to all drivers as needed to meet the objective of this position

d. Submit training and evaluation records to the Safety and Training Supervisor for review and filing

e. Provide and document accident refresher training and make recommendations to the Safety and Training Supervisor upon completion of training

Skills

1. Teaching skills necessary to train students on proper operation of transit vehicles

2. Organizational skills necessary to administer the training program

3. Knowledge of the structure and procedures of the Unitrans system

4. Basic mechanical knowledge necessary to operate Unitrans equipment

5. Must have a good driving record

6. Must have 400 Lifetime Hours

7. Must have 1 year with a class B license or 3 quarters of driving

8. Not on any strike or accident probation

1. Develop management and interpersonal skills and gain experience talking to many different kinds of people.

2. As an instructor, you will learn how to be more patient and tolerant.

3. Learn how to effectively schedule and work independently.
