The Coffee House is now hiring employees for Fall 2021Employees will spend their time preparing great food, providing excellent service, and/or working registers for our 9000+ daily customers.

Please note that there will be no interviews for this position. Applicants will be selected based on experience and thoroughness of their application. All new team members will have a probationary period; details will be given if offered employment.

Positions

Applicants selected will be considered for one position only, based on the applicant's experience and CoHo staffing needs. The three different general Coffee House areas, each comprised of several options, are listed below. If you prefer one position over another or have experience that would make you a good candidate for a particular position, please note it in the body of your application.

NOTE: BARISTA POSITIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

Out Front Positions:

  • TxMx and Cook
    • TxMx: Preparing and serving a variety of Tex-Mex themed menu items.
    • Cooks: Serving primarily made-from-scratch homestyle favorites.
  • Deli and Croutons
    • Deli: Preparing and serving sandwiches and bagels.
    • Croutons: Preparing and serving made-to-order salads.
  • Swirlz and Ciao
    • Swirlz: Serving baked goods, smoothies, acai bowls, and brewing coffee.
    • Ciao: Assembling, baking, and serving pizza by the slice.
  • General Out Front Duties (all areas above)
    • Display excellent customer service while working the service areas.
    • Maintaining a safe and sanitary work area during a shift.
    • Working in the dish room 1-2 hours per week and applying closing/cleaning techniques.
    • Working 12 hours per week (including 6:30 AM opening, closing, and dish shifts.)

Cashiers

  • Display excellent customer service skills.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer.
  • Work in the various areas of the Coffee House to ring up our customers' purchases, stock various items, and maintain a clean area during a shift.
  • Work between 1-2 hours per week as a busser in the dining room, emptying trash, wiping tables, and stocking service platforms.
  • Work 1-2 hours per week as a S.C.R.E.E.N. team member (security, customer relations, employee ethics,) monitoring the dining room and service floor for hazards and/or theft and providing customer service.
  • Working 12 hours per week (including 6:30 AM opening, closing, and busing/theft prevention shift.)

Kitchen Position

  • Hot Kitchen
    • Preparing hot food for all service platforms, such as beans and rice, soups, entrees, sauces, etc.
  • Bakery
    • Preparing scratch-made bakery items such as pizza dough, cookies, cakes, and breakfast items.
  • Cold Kitchen, Grab & Go
    • Cold Kitchen: Preparing cold food for all service platforms, such as vegetable prep, salsas, slicing meats, etc.
    • Grab & Go: Packaging and labeling a variety of convenience items, including sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc.
  • General Kitchen Duties
    • Learning proper food preparation procedures, including cooking techniques, following a recipe, knife skills, and food safety.
    • Working in the dish room 1-2 hours per week and applying closing/cleaning techniques.
    • Maintaining a safe and sanitary work area during a shift.
    • Working 12 hours per week (including 6:30 AM opening, closing, and dish shift.)

TIMELINE

Skills

  1. No experience necessary; we will train you. However, please list all previous food experience on your application.
  2. Must be able to proivde one of the following ORIGINAL documents (CANNOT be photo copies) for hiring paperwork on the day of orientation:
    1. Current passport,
    2. Photo ID and original birth certificate, OR
    3. Photo ID and original social security card.
  3. Must have a current CALIFORNIA FOOD HANDLER CARD within two weeks of employment. Cost is ~$10-$15. Cards can be obtained online. Details will be given at orientation.
  4. Employment for all cashiers is contingent upon successful University background check within one week of job offer.
  5. Must be able to life up to 50 lb.
  6. Must be able to follow directions and complete given tasks.
  7. Must display a positive attitude in the workplace.
  8. MUST BE AVAILABLE TO TRAIN ON THE DAYS/TIMES LISTED ABOVE! NO EXCEPTIONS!
