Copy editors are responsible for editing articles for style, grammar and bias. Knowledge of AP Style and attention to detail are a must. Copy readers will report to the copy chiefs and attend a weekly desk meeting.
As a part of ASUCD, you agree to subscribe to the ASUCD Newsletter.
-Read through and edit between 20 and 30 short articles each week for Associated Press Style, grammar and bias.
-Attend a weekly desk meeting with a team of other copy readers.
-Stay up-to-date on UC Davis-related news to ensure accuracy of news articles.
-May be expected to edit breaking news on campus or in the Davis community at a moment’s notice.
-Attend quarterly Aggie all staff meetings.
-To avoid bias and maintain standards of journalistic objectivity, copy editors should disclose all real or perceived conflicts of interest during their interview.
-Must complete UC Managing Implicit Bias Series from University of California Learning Center within two weeks of being hired or have completed the series in the past two years.
-Completion of UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Non-Supervisors and the Clery Act Training for Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) within two weeks of being hired or have completed these courses in the past two years.
-Strong knowledge of conventions of standard American English and news writing style. Native fluency or equivalent required.
-Strong knowledge of AP News Values and Principles and AP Standards and Practices.
-Constructive and quick communication skills.
-Organizational and time management skills.
-Ability to work well under deadline pressure and deal with adversity and stress.
