The new media manager manages The California Aggie's digital presence, developing website, social media and multimedia strategies. The new media manager, in collaboration with Creative Media and the IT unit, is also responsible for overseeing special digital projects and posting breaking news.

  • Oversee new media team, including social media manager, website manager and new media interns.

  • Post breaking news on the website as needed.

  • Hire and supervise new media interns in accordance with Aggie policy.

  • Hold weekly desk meetings to coordinate with new media team, brainstorm digital engagement strategies, and address issues as needed.

  • Manage The California Aggie’s digital presence, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Tumblr in accordance with UC Davis Social Media Policy & Guidelines.

  • Manage social media matrix. Coordinate with editors to ensure that content is posted in a timely manner. Coordinate with editors to post content outside of the normal production schedule.

  • Train new media team and editors, as necessary, on digital media strategies.

  • Monitor website and social media platforms for issues and alert editor-in-chief of problems as they arise. Update editor-in-chief and business development manager about online traffic, readership, and digital strategies.

  • Coordinate with editors to develop digital content, long-term projects and special issues. Coordinate with editors and managers on visual presentation of digital presence.

  • Attend required manager meetings, including weekly storyboard meeting.

  • Table weekly for The Aggie and assist with morning distribution once per quarter.

  • Attend monthly outreach and engagement board meetings.

  • Must complete UC Managing Implicit Bias Series from University of California Learning Center within 2 weeks of being hired or have completed the series in the past year


  •  Journalistic background preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AP News Values and Principles and AP Standards and Practices preferred.

  • Experience with Apple OS, Wordpress platform, Google Analytics, and social media strategy preferred.

  • Constructive and quick communication skills

  • Organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work well under deadline pressure and deal with adversity and stress 

Time commitment:

Approximately 10 hours per week required. This amount of time will vary according to the paper's production schedule and other factors.
