Purpose

Oversee the daily publication of The California Aggie's content on its WordPress site as well as web campaigns and special content as student interest and focus necessitates in collaboration with Creative Media & IT units.

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 10 hours per week are required. This amount of time will vary according to the paper's production schedule and other factors.

Duties

As a part of ASUCD, you agree to subscribe to the ASUCD Newsletter.

  •  Publish The California Aggie’s content to the website. Publication may include breaking news as well as regularly scheduled content.
  • Attend weekly desk meeting to coordinate with new media team, brainstorm digital engagement strategies, and address issues as needed.

  • Research and implement innovative web strategies to increase digital readership and engagement.

  • Read and analyze web analytics. Update editor-in-chief and business development manager about web traffic, readership, and digital strategies.

  • Coordinate with editors to develop content for the website, long-term projects, and special issues. Coordinate with editors and managers about sweb presence of content.

  • Attend required manager meetings, including weekly storyboard meeting.

  • Table weekly for The Aggie and assist with morning distribution once per quarter.

  • Must complete UC Managing Implicit Bias Series from University of California Learning Center within 2 weeks of being hired or have completed the series in the past year.

  • The website manager cannot be affiliated with the ASUCD government.

Skills

  • Journalistic background.

  • Strong knowledge of AP News Values and Principles and AP Standards and Practices.

  • Experience with Wordpress. Experience reading and understanding website analytics.

  • Constructive and quick communication skills.

  • Organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to perform well under deadline pressure and deal with adversity and stress.
