Purpose

Manages the Route Supervisor Team to ensure safe and reliable transit service for the University of California Davis and the City of Davis.

Must have a graduation date of Spring 2024 or later.

Must be accessible to all Unitrans employees during Unitrans operation hours.

Must be available for on-the-job training during the remainder of Winter and Spring Quarter of 2023.

Must be able to work the entire summer and spring break of 2023.

Must be able to work and be on-call for the entirety of Picnic Day Service on April 15th, 2023.

Been a solo Route Supervisor for a minimum of 2 quarters before the time of application.

Duties

I. Hire new route supervisors
a. Interview and debrief applicants applying for the Route Supervisor team.

b. 
Interview and train the next Route Supervisor Manager.
c. Hire and train RSM Assistant


II. Train and refresh route supervisors

a. Conduct initial classroom training for new supervisors.

b. 
Responsible for leading fluids and fuel safety training for both newly hired Route Supervisors and Driver Trainers.
c. Implement individualized training for new supervisors and ensure each supervisor is competent at all aspects of the job before they complete the training process.

d. Debrief supervisors after completing their solo evaluation

e. Plan out quarterly Supervisor Accident Refresher with the Safety Manager.


III. Ensure Immediate Execution and Supervision of Unitrans Route Supervisor Team

a. Must have interpersonal skills to minimize and resolve conflicts between Route Supervisors.

b. Must hold each supervisor accountable for their actions, including using the Supervisor Strike system.

c. Able to provide weekly updated operations, service related information, and protocol to Route Supervisors through Supe meetings.

d. Able to provide feedback from the Route Supervisor team to relevant managers in Unitrans.

e. Must be on-call for the Route Supervisor team during unforeseen events.

f. Serve as on call Supervisor for all uncovered supervisor shifts.

g. Conduct and lead quarterly Supervisor Priority to ensure all shifts are covered before the next service period.

h. Must be able to build shifts on Uni before Driver Priority.

i. Maintain an inventory of necessary equipment needed for supervisors and daily operations such as location of Accident/Incident forms, office supplies, batteries and other miscellaneous items requested from the Route Supervisor Team.

j. Understand and carry out the Unitrans Emergency Operations Plan, if needed.


IV. 
Work with other Unitrans career and student managers to solve service related issues and projects
a. Must meet weekly with the Assistant General Manager - Operations for projects, protocol updates, and relational conflicts within and against the Route Supervisor team.

b. Schedule FTA mandated drug and alcohol tests with the Assistant General Manager - Operations for supervisors, drivers, and conductors.

c. Must be comfortable working with career managers, student managers, and the Route Supervisor team in an effort to improve the efficiency of service, address service needs as they arise, and maintain optimal working conditions for all Unitrans employees.

d. Able to work with the Human Resource Manager and the Assistant General Manager - Operations with personnel related issues involving supervisors, conductors, and drivers.

e. Must participate in biweekly Planning Meeting and Manager Meeting to provide a Route Supervisor perspective for other managers.

Skills

Must be a Unitrans Route Supervisor with a minimum of two quarters since finishing Route Supervisor Training. Must prioritize Manager responsibilities and commitments over other Unitrans positions.

The skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the Unitrans Route Supervisor Manager may be acquired, to a large extent, through on-the-job training and experience. Only general fundamental attributes necessary for this position are listed below:

1. Ability to exercise a high degree of independent responsibility.

2. Ability to develop reasonable, safe and innovative on the spot solutions for daily operational problems.

3. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all Unitrans employees.

4. Knowledge of Unitrans daily operations.

5. Must already be Alexander Dennis and RT trained.

6. Strong understanding of common bus problems.

7. Strong organizational skills.

8. Demonstrated interpersonal and public relations skills in employee management.

9. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
